WTC Final Ind v NZ: 1st day washed out
Due to persistent rains and wet outfield, the first day of the India v New Zealand test at Southampton for the world test Championships was a total washout with not even the toss happening.
While India has already announced their XI, New Zealand is yet to announce their final team.
With better weather & fewer rains predicted, the 2nd day promises longer hours of cricket. However, the weather looks grim again on the 3rd and 4th days with cloud cover. WTC Final Ind v NZ: 1st day washed out, reserve day comes into play.
Meanwhile, once the full 1st session ( of 2 hours). First 30 minutes of the 2nd session was lost on the 1st day. The reserve day has come to play. This is as every day the match will start 30 minutes early to cover up half hour of time lost on each day which makes the full of 30 minutes lost each day. However, with additional three & a half hours lost due to a total first day washout. Those three & half hours are added on the reserve day on 23rd June. Going forward any time lost in subsequent days will be added to the reserve day till it is constituted as a full day.
ICC has clarified that since the reserve day will be effective now. The follow on margin will remain as 200 or more deficit as the test match is not getting reduced to 4 days due to the reserve day provision.
Thus the fans will be keeping their fingers crossed. Will hope that rain stays away for the match to start.
