The much-awaited T20I series between South Africa and West Indies was off to a great start for the home team at Grenada. Already earmarked as one of the top favorites for the T20I World cup in October, the West Indies put up a clinical performance to easily beat the tourists in the 1st T20I helped by a blazing knock from man of the match Evin Lewis after South Africa had set a modest target of 161.
Batting first South Africa managed 160/6 riding on a superb 56 off 38 balls by Rassie Van Der Dussen. Who held the innings together after DeCock (37) & Hendricks (17) provided a brisk start. However poor batting by the lower order including Miller and Klaasen restricted South Africa’s progress as Fabian Allen (2/18) and Dwayne Bravo (2/30) were the pick of the Windies bowlers. Set to score 161, Lewis and Andre Flecher started in whirlwind fashion as both were striking the ball well. Enjoying the extra pace of Rabada and Nortje. After Flecher fell for a 19 ball 30, Lewis had a good stand with Gayle (32) and subsequently finished the match with Andre Russell. Who hit a blistering 23 not out off 12 balls including 3 on side sixes. Lewis, who is currently not a part of any IPL team. Totally decimated the South African attack with 7 sixes and 4 fours in his 35 ball 71 not out full of breathtaking pull shots as West Indies cantered home in just 15 overs.
