West Indies finally prevailed over Srilanka in the 3 match T20I series winning the final game by 4 wkts. In reply to Srilanka’s modest 131/9 the West Indies rattled up the runs in 13 overs . However on the way , they lost cheap wickets including Gayle and Pollard to left arm mystery spinner Sandakan and leggie Hassaranga until Holder (14no) and Fabian Allen (21no) completed the series win . Earlier Dinesh Chandimal (54) and Bandara (45) took Srilanka to a respectable total after they lost wickets rapidly in top order.
The spinners from both sides dominated the series and it was evident even more in the second d T20I . Srilanka were given a great start by Gunatilleke (54) and Sandakan (37) and both of them played sparkling shots. Some useful cameos at the end took Srilanka to 160/6 in 20 overs.
In reply , the inherent weakness of West Indies batting against leg spin was brutally exposed as Hassaranga (3/17) , Sandakan (3/10) and Dananjaya (1/13) combined well to skittle out West Indies for 117 . Srilankan fast bowler Dusmanta Chameera (2/26) generated good pace on slowish pitches and his delivery to knock over Pooran’s off stump was a beauty.
Though West Indies finally won the series, their weaknesses against quality leg spin was ruthlessly exposed, something that other teams with good spinners like India , Australia , Srilanka , Pakistan and Afghanistan will look to exploit during T20I World cup this year .
For Srilanka , they need to show lots of improvement in their batting which has looked fragile inspite of the presence of stalwarts like Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal.
