Indian women’s cricket team’s opener Smriti Mandhana played a charming innings of 63 runs against Pakistan in the Commonwealth Games 2022.  Chasing the target of 100 runs by Pakistan, Mandhana played this brilliant innings in 42 balls with the help of 8 fours and 3 sixes.  Mandhana has joined Virat Kohli’s special club after this innings.

 Mandhana has become the first Indian woman player to score 1000 runs while chasing a target in T20Is on the basis of this innings, while in men this record is in the name of former Indian captain and run machine in the name of Virat Kohli.  There is a similarity between Kohli and Mandhana that both the players wear the number 18 jersey.  After this feat of Mandhana, she is being called the chase master of women’s cricket.

Mandhana is now the third Indian player after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to have 1000-plus T20I runs while chasing. While Mandhana is in the third spot with 1059 runs, Kohli and Rohit have gathered 1789 and 1375 runs, respectively.

Smriti played a sparkling innings vs Pakistan on this day . During her previous encounter against Pakistan she was out  relatively cheaply in the 50 over World cup this year but on this day she looked in dazzling form striking the ball with power & flair .

 India defeated Pakistan by 8 wickets in the Group A match of the Commonwealth Games 2022 to register their first win of the tournament.  Batting first, Pakistan had set a target of 100 runs in 18 overs to win against India in a rain-hit match.  India achieved this score in 11.4 overs on the basis of the blazing  half-century innings of Smriti Mandhana.  This is India’s first win in Group A, while Pakistan are out after losing their second match in a row.  India ranks above Barbados and Australia in the group with a net run rate of +1.520.
 India’s third and last match in Group A is against Barbados on 3 August.  If India is successful in winning this match then it will qualify for the semi-finals.
