India’s ODI squad for South Africa tour has been announced.  Rohit Sharma is out of the ODI series due to injury and KL Rahul will take over the command of the team in his place.  However, after the announcement of the team, the Chief Selector also made a big statement on the removal of Virat Kohli from the captaincy.  Chetan Sharma said that Virat Kohli was told by everyone not to give up the T20 captaincy.  Chetan Sharma claims that Virat Kohli said before the T20 World Cup that he wants to leave the T20 captaincy.  After this, everyone sitting in front of Virat asked him to consider this decision.

 After the announcement of the ODI team, Chetan Sharma said that when Virat Kohli talked about leaving the T20 captaincy, everyone was stunned.  Everyone told Virat Kohli not to give up the T20 captaincy. 

 Chetan Sharma said that if a player like Virat Kohli suddenly talks about leaving the T20 captaincy, then everyone will be stunned.  This announcement of Virat Kohli could also affect the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2021, so the selectors asked him to consider his decision.  It needs to be said  that before going to South Africa, Virat Kohli said that no one asked him not to step down from T20 captaincy.  Now  Chetan Sharma’s statements has thrown the whole episode back into limelight again .

 Chetan Sharma said that when Virat Kohli decided to leave the T20 captaincy, the selectors had to remove him from the ODI captaincy.  The selectors wanted the ODI and T20 formats to have only one captain.  Chetan Sharma said, ‘No one told Virat to leave the captaincy.  When he left the T20 captaincy, the selectors had to think that there should be only one captain of the white ball.  We had informed Virat Kohli about this.  It was our decision to remove him from the ODI captaincy.  It was his decision to step down from T20 captaincy.’

 Chetan Sharma claimed that he told about the removal of Virat Kohli from the ODI captaincy 90 minutes before the selection of the Test team.  Chetan Sharma said, ‘I myself had called Virat Kohli.  I had a good talk with Virat.  The most important thing is that Virat Kohli is one of the most important players.  We had informed him even before the Test team selection meeting.  There is no confusion between Virat and us.  90 minutes ago, Virat was informed about the decision to be removed from the ODI captaincy.


It remains to be seen whether Virat Kohli will come out with anything new on this episode if he is asked again anything on it in future press conferences
