It has come to light that the BCCI bosses are not very pleased with India missing out on ICC trophy wins in the last 5-6 years. Team India has suffered defeats in the 2017 Champions trophy, 2019 ODI world cup and the WTC final this year.
There was an important meeting during last July amongst the BCCI top bosses and there the reasons for India missing out on big event wins was discussed at great length as BCCI is reportedly not happy at India repeatedly losing in big events. Also was discussed the split captaincy options whereby India may have different captains in Tests , ODIs and T20Is .
It is understood from inside sources that the faith in the current Indian team management has eroded somewhat in the BCCI circles and that’s why they have taken the big step to involve MS Dhoni in the team India dressing room as a mentor. BCCI is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that India win the T20I World cup of 2021 at the UAE .
Inside sources have further confirmed that if India fails to win the T20I world cup this year, it would spell the end of Virat Kohli’s captaincy tenure in the white-ball cricket and the same could well be handed over to 34 year old Rohit Sharma who has a great captaincy record in IPL and has also done well whenever he led India. Hence the next T20I world cup in Australia in 2022 might see Rohit Sharma leading the Indian team if India fails to win T20I world cup this year.
However, as of now there is no danger to Kohli losing his captaincy in Test cricket where he has performed brilliantly.
Thus lots are a stake as India approaches the coming T20I World cup .
