Struggling with poor form, Virat Kohli is likely to be rested for the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa. It is expected that this break will relieve Kohli’s fatigue before the England tour. It is learned that the Chetan Sharma-led national selection committee will allow India’s number one batsman to take a break from the game as he has been spending a lot of time in the ‘bio-bubble’ for the past two months.
Kohli is going through the worst phase of his career, he hasn’t scored a century in almost three years. A senior BCCI (Cricket Board of India) official told PTI on condition of anonymity, “There is every possibility that Virat Kohli will be rested for the South Africa series. He has been playing a lot of cricket and has been living in the ‘bio-bubble’ for a long time. ,
He said, “It has been a policy decision with respect to Kohli and other senior players that they will be given breaks from time to time.”
Delhi, Cuttack, Visakhapatnam, Rajkot and Bangalore will host the matches vs South Africa.
India will visit Britain in June-July. They will first play a T20I series against Ireland and then a Test against England (completed the fifth Test of the 2021 series) and six white-ball matches.
Kohli has been in poor form for the Indian Premier League franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He was dismissed three times without scoring a single run, while in the course of 216 runs, only once has he been able to add more than 50 runs. He averages 19.63 in 12 matches and have a poor strike rate of 111 .
Taking breaks several times helps the players to return to form and perhaps Kohli needs the same break. Former head coach Ravi Shastri has already made it clear that Kohli needs a long break from the game.
Shastri had recently said, “Be it for two months or one and a half months, be it before the England tour or after. He needs a break because he has six-seven years of cricket left in him and you don’t want to lose it to fatigue. ,
Ian Bishop had also recently said that Kohli is getting out in different ways against different types of bowlers which is worrying. The selection committee will meet at the end of the IPL. “Even captain Rohit Sharma needs proper rest as so much cricket is being played. Some others also include KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant who will need the necessary rest from time to time. ,
