Top players that teams may lose out in IPL 2022 mega auctions
In the IPL 2022 mega auctions, each team can retain up to 4 players in 2 possible combinations, either 3 Indians and 1 foreigner or 2 Indians and 2 foreigners. On doing certain permutations and combinations it appears that there are some players. Who are very close to their franchisees and performed consistently for them might have to go for a new beginning. Some of those Top players that teams may lose out in IPL 2022 mega auctions are as under
Surya Kumar Yadav
With Mumbai Indians set to retain Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Keiron Pollard, Surya kumar Yadav is very likely to find himself the odd one out even after some stellar shows for Mumbai. Mumbai, however, will try to get him at the auction field
Exactly similar situation as Surya Kumar Yadav. Krunal has been extremely successful for Mumbai and has won matches for them as an allrounder. But with 4 stalwarts for retention, Mumbai will try definitely to pick Krunal at the auction field.
Quinton De Kock
With Pollard, the only overseas player likely to be retained by Mumbai. Decock who has given Mumbai such electric starts, is set for a new beginning. But again Mumbai won’t give up on him easily & will go for him at the auctions.
A CSK legend, but his chances of retention looks tough with Dhoni, Raina, Jadeja and possibly Sam Curran the 4 likely retainees for CSK.
Obviously, CSK will make a beeline for Faf at the auctions but auctions have an uncertain future.
Even a season ago Warner was to Sunrisers what Dhoni is to CSK or Rohit to Mumbai Indians. However, a poor result in the unfinished IPL 2021 & an apparent fallout with the team management could see Warner playing for a different team. SRH are likely to retain Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Natarajan, Williamson & Rashid Khan. They might go for Warner at the auctions but a lot will depend on how SRH performs after the IPL 2021 resumes in September.
Jos Buttler is a champion player for Rajasthan Royals. But with the retention rules as they are, Archer and Stokes will be the likely retainees for Rajasthan Royals. Unless anything changes in the remaining part of IPL 2021. However, it is guaranteed that the Royals will buy a fortune to get Buttler at the auctions.
The high profile buy for KKR at USD 15 crores. Has had his struggles in IPL and has come up with mixed results. Moreover, with KKR having players like Russell, Morgan and Narine to choose from for retention. Cummins may just find himself out. He is not likely to come back and play in the remainder of IPL 2021. Thus his future becomes more uncertain in KKR.
Delhi has a strong team and likely to retain 3 Indians, Iyer, Pant and Dhawan. Rabada could be the lone overseas retainee and hence Nortje inspite of his strong performances in 2020. Might just miss out and there is no guarantee that Delhi will go for him at the auctions. However, a lot can change if Nortje does something special in the remainder of IPL 2021
