IPL is now in its 14th year. The event which started with such great fanfare in 2008 has now grown into the greatest T20 event of the year and overseas players all around the world are more than happy to participate in the two-month-long event as it provides great exposure in a high standard event and big financial security.
IPL has further enhanced the career of established Indian cricketers in the T20 format and made them into great IPL legends. As a result, we find that some of our greatest Indian legends of the current generation are the ones who played maximum IPL matches. Here are the top 5 players who played maximum IPL games of which four are Indians :
Virat Kohli. 193 matches
Kohli has been in RCB right through his IPL career and has played 193 IPL games for RCB. He is currently the highest all time IPL run-getter with over 5900 runs and is leading RCB as captain since 2013
MS Dhoni. 175 matches
Dhoni is the face of CSK and its captain since inception and therefore it’s no surprise that he is very high in the list of highest IPL appearances. For two years he was with Rising Pune Supergiants when CSK was in suspension. With 3 titles, over 4600 runs and many keeping dismissals he is the 2nd highest in the list of most IPL appearances with 175 games .
Kieron Pollard. 166 matches
Pollard is a Mumbai Indian faithful since inception and has been an integral part of the team for 14 years, a tribute to his dedication and consistency. With over 3000 runs and 60 wickets, the hard-hitting West Indian is the only overseas player in the top five most appearances in IPL with 166 games.
Suresh Raina. 165 matches
Like Dhoni, Raina has been a CSK faithful since 2008 and would have been 2nd highest in the list had he not withdrawn from the 2020 edition. Like Dhoni, he had to play for another franchisee during CSK’s suspension for two years. 2nd in the list of IPL run-getters after Kohli, Raina has played 165 games for CSK
Rohit Sharma. 157 matches
Six times IPL winner ( 5 with Mumbai and one with Deccan Chargers ) , Rohit Sharma is the 3rd player in the top five to have played for more than one IPL team and is 3rd in the all-time list of top run-getters after Kohli and Raina. With 157 matches he is the 5th on the list of maximum IPL appearances.
