Top five best scores in ODIs

ODI cricket started from 1971 and since then we have seen gradually runs getting scored at a faster pace. For a long time Viv Richards’ 189 was the highest individual score till Saeed Anwar surpassed it vs India with his famous 194. Finally it was Tendulkar who scored the first 200 in ODI in 2010 which opened the floodgates . In current times all the top five knocks in ODIs are double centuries. Top five best scores in ODIs are listed as under.

Rohit Sharma 264 v Sri Lanka 2014

Rohit Sharma and Eden Gardens Kolkata are made for each other. The hitman is always a hit in that venue and had many landmarks there, his first Ranji 100, his first IPL 100, his debut test 100, 2 IPL titles with Mumbai Indians etc. On 2014 at Kolkata, he was making a comeback to the team after a 10-month gap. India batted first and Rohit helped himself to a steady 100 off 100 balls after which he cut loose. Free-flowing strokes followed all around the ground with drives, cuts, stepped out lofted shots, trademark pulls etc. The electric outfield at Eden Gardens and poor bowling by Srilankans helped as he scored the first 250 in ODIs finally ending at 264 off 173 balls with 33 fours and 9 massive sixes. His last 164 runs came in just 73 balls as he murdered the Srilankan bowling. India scored 404 and were easy winners by 153 runs.

Martin Guptill 237 v WI 2015

It was the high tension world cup quarter-final knockout round at Eden Park Auckland and batting first New Zealand were up and away with Martin Guptill in menacing touch. Guptill was simply on the rampage against a West Indian bowling attack of Jerome Taylor, Jason Holder, Andre Russell & Benn. Almost 90% of his shots was played on the onside and he favoured the deep midwicket & long on area for his brutal hitting including massive sixes on a small ground. With 24 fours & 11 sixes, his 237 not out off 163 balls was the highest individual score in a World cup and helped New Zealand to secure a 143 run win

Virender Sehwag 219 v W. Indies 2011

Sehwag at the speed with he used to score runs opening the innings, a double hundred in ODI was a matter of time. Finally, it arrived at Indore vs the West Indies in 2011. Right from the word go Sehwag showed aggressive intent, uppercutting for his first 6 to set the ball rolling. He is the Top five best scores in ODIs .Soon he was all over the West Indies bowling attack of Roach, Rampaul, Russell, Pollard etc and smashed them at his will. Sehwag got a lot of runs on the cut, hoick over deep long-on, drives and deft touches. He played 149 balls and hit 25 fours and 7 sixes in his awesome innings. India won the match by 153 runs.

Chris Gayle 215 v Zimbabwe 2015

Another player like Sehwag who took lot of time to get his first 200 in ODIs. This was a group encounter in 2015 World cup at Manuka Oval in Canberra. Gayle after settling down was at his brutal best smashing the ball to all parts of the ground. The drives through the offside, slashing cuts, pulls over midwicket, stepped out lofted shots were all there as Gayle finally made a massive 215 off 147 balls with 10 fours and 16 sixes as Zimbabwe finally lost by 73 runs.

Fakkar Zaman 210 v Zimbabwe 2018

Fakkar is the only Pakistan batsman to have scored an ODI double hundred. He was particularly lethal on the on-side with his front foot and back foot pull shots. The mediocre bowling attack of Zimbabwe at Bulawyo had no answers to the onslaught as Fakkar carried the bat through the innings hitting 210 off 156 balls with 24 fours and 5 sixes.
