With the World T20I just 2 months away to be held in the UAE after the IPL. Most of the teams are getting ready by playing in a series of bilateral T20I matches all around the world. We will now look at the Top 8 T20I captains in World cup 2021
Mahmudullah : Mahmudullah is the scorer of the first-ever World cup hundred (50 overs) for Bangladesh in 2015. The dependable middle-order batsman has won 10 T20I games. As captain out of 22 matches for Bangladesh which is a winning percentage of 45 %. Recently he led Bangladesh to a creditable 4-1 series win over Australia. Which is Bangladesh’s first-ever bilateral series win vs Australia across formats.
Temba Bavuma: South Africa recently had multiple chances of T20I captaincy changing from Duplessis to DeKock to now finally Bavuma. The diminutive batsman has led South Africa in 8 matches & win 6 of them at a creditable 75% winning percentage. He has recently led the Proteas to a creditable 3-2 T20I series win against the mighty West Indies in their backyard.
Keiron Pollard: Inspite being one of the world cup favourites West indies won only 13 matches out of 37 since January 2019 and Pollard as captain has won 9 out of 26 games with a winning percentage of 42%. West indies has recently lost a T20I series vs South Africa at home by 3–2 though they managed to beat a weak Australia without some of their stars by 4-1. Pollard will surely want to improve the record for West Indies to create an impact in World T20I.
Aaron Finch : Contrary to other formats, Australia has struggled in T20I cricket. Their skipper Aaron Finch has a winning percentage of 49% with 23 wins out of 49 matches he led Australia. Australia had humiliating recent defeats in back to back T20I series vs West Indies and Bangladesh both at identical margins of 4-1. Hence once Finch is back after his surgery, he will have to pull Australia out of this rut.
Babar Azam : Babar Azam has a good T20I captaincy record having won 15 out of 27 games for Pakistan at a winning percentage of 65%. With the coming world cup at UAE, it is advantage Pakistan. As UAE is their home ground for most bilateral series that their team plays. Hence good chance for Babar to enhance his winning record.
Kane Williamson The Kiwi icon has a fine T20I captaincy record of 23 wins out of 39 games at a 59% winning record. New Zealand is a tough T20I side and has already announced their World cup squad. They have world their last bilateral T20I series vs Australia in March 2021 at home. After winning the WTC final, Williamson will be pump to enhance his T20I captaincy record.
Virat Kohli Kohli is the only captain to be possessing a 50 plus batting average in T20I cricket. He has got over 3000 runs at 52 average and has a great 65% winning percentage having won 27 matches out of 45 games. With no ICC titles as a captain, Kohli will be pump to win the coming world cup for India.
Eoin Morgan: England are the big favourites for the World T20I having won 21 of their last 32 T20Is since January 2019 and Morgan after winning the 50 over World Cup in 2019 is pump to had the T20I world cup in his collection. A brilliant & innovative middle-order lefthander Morgan has won 37 out of 64 T20Is. As captain with a winning rate of 60%.
