Tim Southee is more famous for his bowling skills but on the 5th day of the WTC final, he showed his batting skills too, hitting an invaluable 30 off 46 balls which included two massive 6s.

Southee is no mug with the bat and can be classified as a semi allrounder in test cricket. Apart from 312 test wickets he also has 1728 test runs. Tim Southee closes in on Dhoni in elite company of six hitters in test cricket.

On the 5th day, Southee went past Ricky Pointing as one of the highest 6 hitters in test cricket and is just 3 short of MS Dhoni who has hit 78 sixes in tests. Southee is currently at 15th in the all-time list of highest six hitters with 75 sixes in 79 tests and he has already surpassed legends like Ricky Ponting, Sachin Tendulkar, AB de Villiers, Clive Lloyd, Ian Botham and Sanath Jayasurya who are all known for their outstanding batting abilities as compared to Southee himself who is a specialist bowler and only handy with the bat.

It is Southee’s former captain Brendon McCullum who heads the list with 107 sixes in 101 test matches.

With a quickfire 30 and 2 wickets at the end of the 5th day, Southee may still have a crucial role to play as New Zealand will try to push for an outright win on the 6th morning of the WTC final.
