India and New Zealand announce squad of 15 for the WTC final

Finally, India’s squad of 15 is announce for the World test Championships final. Originally a 20 member squad was chosen for the test squad. The contingent had to be big as the team management need a big squad to make provision for any injuries, as in current times it is difficult to fly any replacement overnight and to play him instantly with strict quarantine protocols being follow across the world due to the covid pandemic.

Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Chesteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (c), Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Hanuma Vihari, Umesh Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Wriddhiman Saha

The 15 member squad has 5 fast bowlers, 2 spinning all-rounders, 2 keepers and 6 specialist batsmen.

Thus it appears that Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Washington Sundar, Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul has been exclude. Of course they will continue to be a part of the 20 member team for the 5 test England series starting from August 2021 .

Earlier in the day , New Zealand have also announced their 15 member squad for the WTC final. They have excluded Mitchel Santner for Ajaz Patel as the lone spinner , kept Tom Blundel as the backup keeper and impressive batsman Will Young as the batting backup . Colin DeGrandhome retains his spot ahead of Daryl Mitchell.
