While the T20I World cup was on at the UAE , the Syed Mushtaq Ali domestic T20I tournament was on in India .
The event has progressed a great deal as the group matches were completed. Defending champions Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra have qualified for the next round .
Tamil Badu restricted Punjab in their all important clash to 145/7 and duly achieved the target for the loss of just 3 wickets. For the winners N Jagadeeshan scored a fluent 67 off 47 balls and his partnership with skipper Vijay Shankar (59*) laid the foundation for an easy 7 wicket win .
In another important game Maharashtra needed to beat Goa and thus managed to put an imposing total of 177 with Yash Nahar hitting a scintillating 103 of just 68 balls and had an attractive 104 run stand with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad to lay the foundation of the innings. Later the bowlers worked their way through the Goa innings to get them all out for a small score of 104 & win by 73 runs .
In earlier matches Abhimanyu Easwaran’s fluent fifty and Mukesh Kumar’s 3 wickets enabled Bengal to produce a stunning win over favourites Karnataka who were jolted again . For the vanquished team , Karun Nair scored 44.
Another very surprising result was that of Mumbai. despite Shaw & Ajinkya Rahane in their ranks , Mumbai could not qualify for next round .
While the event draws towards the business end , the top current run getters are Tanmay Agarwal of Hyderabad (302 runs) , Deepak Hooda of Rajasthan ( 291 runs) & Ajinkya Rahane of Mumbai (286 runs) .
CV Milind of Hyderabad (16 wickets) , CV Stephen of Andhra Pradesh (14 wks) & Rishi Dhawan of Himachal Pradesh (14 wkts) leads the wicket taking category .
