Punjab Kings’ IPL 2021 campaign is getting from bad to worse. After a Samson special nearly beat them in the first match, they were appalling in their 2nd game vs CSK setting a target of 107. Poor bowling in their 3rd game failed to defend 195 vs Delhi Capitals and now another shocking batting performance on an admittedly slowish deck gets them their 3rd defeat in a row.

And after a shocking start to the IPL 2021, Sunrisers Hyderabad finally gets their 1st points of the season after missing out on potential wins in earlier games.

The SRH v PBKS game was a disappointingly low scoring one-sided match. Punjab batted first and simply kept losing wickets throughout the innings with not a single partnership doing the rescue act. Rahul (4) went cheaply caught at midwicket by Kedar Jadav off Bhuvneswar. Gayle (15) and Mayank (22) tried to get a partnership going but Mayank’s dismissal opened the floodgates as soon Pooran was runout by a direct throw from Warner without facing a ball which followed a constant procession with Gayle, Hooda, Henriques and Allen were all dismissed without individually reaching 20s . A sensible knock from Shahrukh Khan (22 off 17 balls) at the backend got the total to 120 before Punjab were bowled out.

For SRH , the pitch was ideal for their bowling attack and all their bowlers excelled with Khaleel Ahmed getting 3/27 , Abhishek Sharma 2/24 , Rashid 1/17 and Bhuvneshwar 1/16. All the bowlers bowled in the right channels, using the cutters and slower ones to good effect .

In reply, Sunrisers started brilliantly with Bairstow once again in menacing touch and Warner running hard to get the quick runs. Together they put up 50 in the powerplay and continued their partnership till 73 before Warner mistimed a shot off Fabian Allen for 37. Bairstow continued his good work, becoming more cautious as the pitch slowed down and concentrated on rotating the strike with Kane Williamson (16 no) who played his first game this season after recovering from injury. Together they completed the win in the 19th over with Bairstow remaining 63 not out off 56 balls to get the man of the match award .
