Star former cricketer comes down heavily on 2 openers & Kohli for India’s poor powerplays in T20I WC

India’s journey in T20 World Cup 2022 was very disappointing.  The team had to be eliminated after losing against England in the semi-final match.  After the defeat in the T20 World Cup, many questions are being raised on the Indian team.  Many veterans have advised to exclude some players.  Meanwhile, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has also shared his view.  He has said that the Indian team needs to change its approach in T20 cricket.

Harbhajan Singh was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo, ‘Team India will have to change its approach in T20 cricket.  The first six overs are very important.  If you don’t score runs in that, then all the onus falls on Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya.  You start expecting them to score 50 runs in 20 balls.  If they does not fire then your innings will end on a small score.

He further said, ‘I am specifically talking about KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.  All the three top batsmen need to increase their strike rate.  It becomes difficult when you are batting at a strike rate of 110 or 120 and you are looking to make 180.  They will have to score runs at the rate of 9 runs per over in the first 10 to 12 overs.

Harbhajan further said, ‘England changed their approach and they won two World Cups (including the 2019 ODI World Cup).  T20 cricket should be played like T20 and not like ODI.
