Srilanka v India ODI series preview
After over 3 months since the England series back home, the Indian team will be seen playing White ball cricket. India will start with three ODIs followed by three T20Is.
We are now entering a special moment in Indian cricket with 2 national sides making different tours at the same time. While the senior team under Virat Kohli is in England for the test series, the second squad will start their campaign in Srilanka from 18 July with the 1st ODI under the leadership of the southpaw Shikhar Dhawan.
For Srilanka, this will be a mighty tough assignment due to the difficult phase that the team is going through.
Recently Srilanka lost all 6 matches (3T20I ,3ODI) in England. Three players were sent home from England after breaching the bio bubble. Two other members of the management were test positive on their return from the tour, and for precautionary measures, the series was postpone by a few days. Srilanka has appointed Dasun Shanaka as their new Captain.
There has been too many changes of captain for Srilanka in recent times . For the India series , the team will be without key players like Anjelo Mathews who is contemplating retirement . Apart from Mathews the team will be without Kusal Parera ( hand injury) , Niroshan Dickwella , Kusal Mendis , Karunaratne, Dinesh Chandimal etc due to various reasons .
Srilanka will bank a lot on their Captain Dasun Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga will both bat and bowl, Dushmantha Chameera. Similarly, Who can generate speed in the bowling attack and Dhananjaya De Silva, who had a good England tour and is Sri Lanka’s next big batting talent.
Indian team have six uncapped players in their squad. The squad is very young, raring to go and very hungry to prove themselves. India has picked three openers along with Shikhar. Prithvi Shaw after having a great Vijay Hazare trophy in which he plundered 800 plus runs. Followed it with a good IPL will most likely to partner Shikhar at the top. Manish Pandey, who wasn’t pick in the England home series earlier this year and was also drop from his IPL franchise would be determine to make good this opportunity to resurrect his India career.
With a wealth of promising openers like Devdutt Padikkal and Ruturaj Gaekwad. As well as middle-order talents like Surya Kumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan. It is a tough ask for the tour selectors to come up with an easily selected first XI. As there are more than 2 good options for most of the spots in this Indian team.
One key factor in this matches could be dew factor. As the one-days are starting from 3:00pm which is a bit late from the usual match time. Srilanka v India ODI series preview.
One of the important decisions in the bowling unit will be about the decision on playing Kuldeep and Chahal. As well as, with other spinners like Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy making a big impression in last 2 IPLs the Kul-cha duo who had won many matches for India couple of seasons ago, has not been the same force in recent times . Hence remains to be seen how many games they get in this series .
On team strength, India looks like a formidable unit and specially due to the turmoil going on in Srilankan cricket and the dip in cricketing talent in the current Srilankan team . Sri Lanka are heavy underdogs.
