Missed chances cost India dear as South African women beat their Indian counterparts in a thrilling finish in 2nd T20I by 6 wickets on the final ball . With this win the Proteas take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3 match series .
Batting first , India’s innings was built around Shafali Verma (47) , Harleen Deol (31) and Richa Ghosh (44 notout) . Shafali unleashed her typical belligerent strokeplay as her stand and deliver shots were finding frequent boundaries all round the ground . Her power packed 47 off just 31 balls provided India a good start after Mandhana again fell cheaply. Harleen Deol provided Shafali good support with a steady 31. Later Richa Ghosh (44notout off just 26 balls) played a rapid knock full of superb backfoot cut shots through the offside to take India to 158/4 .
In reply, the South Africa were rattled early with Bosch getting bowled by Gayakwad as she tried to sweep but other opener Luzelle Lee unleashed aggressive shots as she rapidly scored 70 off just 45 balls aided by dropped catches and simple ones at that . Suun Lewis (20) was brilliantly runout from a direct throw by Deepti Sharma but Laura Wolvaardt ensured that wickets dont fall rapidly and batted with common sense in a nervy situation. The Indian bowling did very well to take the game deep as with just 8 balls remaining , South Africa required 19. However Wolvaardt cracked a 6 & 4 to reduce the equation to 9 off 6 balls . Arundhati Reddy came for final over under great tension and did very well till she bowled a no ball on 4th delivery which was clobbered for 4 and thus 3 were required of 2 balls . 2 runs came off penultimate ball and with 1 to win of last ball, the single was duly taken for South Africa to win the game on last ball by 4 wicket as another misfield occured from India .
