Skipper Harmanpreet to miss 1st T20I v South Africa due to hip injury

Indian women looking to make amends from their convincing 4-1 loss in ODI series vs South Africa , has suffered a big jolt ahead of the start of T20I series with captain Harmanpreet Kaur suffering a hip injury during the last ODI and is missing out from the 1st game on 20th March 2021  .

Vice captain and fluent opening batsman Smriti Mandhana will lead the team in absence of Kaur .  

With seniors Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami no longer in the T20I scheme of things, Indian women will have their task cut out against a confident South African unit fresh from outclassing the hosts in the ODI series .

Belligerent teenage opener Shafali Verma is back in the team for the T20I series and will be the player to watch with her explosive batting at the top of the order which came in for much praise during the T20I World cup in 2020. 

This will be India’s first T20I assignment since the World cup last year and the team will look to put in the much better show than in the just concluded ODI series.  The bowling department which failed in the last series has their job cut out .

The matches are played on 20 , 21 and 23rd March at Lucknow
