This opens up the opening batting spot once again and in all probability. Mayank Agarwal might be the first choice player to open with Rohit in the first test. The other option is KL Rahul who has played in the 2018 series in England. But could not perform well except for a 100 at the Oval.

Gill’s injury might also throw up an option for Bengal’s Abhimanyu Easwaran who is with the Indian squad as a standby. If the extent of Gill’s injury is serious then Abhimanyu might be drafted into the main squad.

The Indian team is currently on a holiday break till 14 July. After which they will start to prepare for England series.
