Yoyo tests has been a topic of big news and even controversies in Indian cricket circles . In recent times skilful players like Varun Chakravartty and Rahul Tewatia failed to clear yoyo tests . Past cricketers have had mixed reactions on the viability of these tests and debate has always come up whether it’s right to put yoyo tests above skillsets.
Virender Sehwag has blasted the yoyo tests policy . He has clearly mentioned that good quality skills should have higher preference than yoyo tests . Although agreeing on the importance of fitness requirements , Sehwag feels that skillsets should come first for any selections . He has pointed out that Hardik Pandya inspite of clearing yoyo tests is not bowling regularly due to load management.
Sehwag bluntly stated that past greats like Sourav Ganguly , VVS Laxman and even Sachin Tendulkar would not have cleared yoyo tests had it been held during their eras . The target score of 12.5 in fitness tests during their era was not reached by many players , Sehwag added .
