Sehwag is of the view that India could never perform so well without its swashbuckling openers. Sehwag said that their contribution to this series has been so huge that it can never be forgotten. It was because of both these players that the middle order could muster up the courage to play strongly. They gave the team a strong footing in the match so that the batsmen following them was not under pressure and could play fiercely. The duo used to play for 30-40 overs.
Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul have been effective openers throughout the series. At the Lord’s Test, the duo created a century together and at Nottingham and Oval. They managed to establish a partnership over 50 runs. They also played well separately when one of the partners got out early. KL Rahul played out his part as an opener at Lord’s and hit a century. Rohit Sharma did the same at the Oval. It won’t be wrong to say that India found itself in a stronger position. Only because of the way its openers played in each match.
