Sanjay Manjrekar’s WTC Final team doesn’t include Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma
Sanjay Manjrekar, a former Indian cricketer and a famous broadcaster picked his best XI to make up the team for World Test Championship. The list has been making headlines as it does not include a few important names. Manjrekar has provided reasons for the same and seems like the former player wasn’t in haste when he came up with the list. Sanjay Manjrekar’s WTC Final team doesn’t include Jadeja and Ishant.
India is going to face New Zealand in England for the WTC final and the event starts on June 18 at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. Many experts have spent time coming up with the best players to be included in the playing XI for this team. But Manjrekar’s seems to be the most surprising as it doesn’t include Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma.
Jadeja and Ishant Sharma replaced
Jadeja has been a fan favorite for quite some time now and dropping him from the team will go against popular belief. But Manjrekar thinks that Ravichandran Ashwin would do better. He also thinks that India would need only one spinner in England provided the conditions in England are as usual. Sanjay Manjrekar’s WTC Final team doesn’t include Jadeja and Ishant.
He said that he came up with the names thinking that the event will see the “typical English conditions”. England is famous for “a mixture of sun and cloudy cover” and this is what Manjrekar expects to see throughout the five days.
Manjrekar has given only four bowlers to the team. He has picked Hanuman Vihari believing that he would provide extra cushion to the batsmen. Also “to reward him for his brilliant innings before he got injured”. He believes that Vihari has more compact defensive techniques as compared to other players. Only Pujara can match his techniques. Manjrekar wants Vihari at number 6 and Pant at 7 considering that the team would hardly get any practice sessions.
Manjrekar’s batting order
When it comes to the batting lineup, Majrekar too went with the tried, tested, and trusted batsmen. His top five included Rohit Sharma,Shubhmann Gill, Pujara, Virat Kohli, and Ajinkya Rahane. He wants to pair Rohit Sharma with Gill as openers and then Puajara, Virat Kohli, and Rahane and would take 3, 4, and 5 slots respectively.
