Rohit Sharma likely to miss 5th test at Manchester
While the Indian fans are basking in the glory of the outstanding come from behind victory in the Oval test. There are a couple of dampening news for Team India.
The first is that both Captain Virat Kohli and the head coach Ravi Shastri will have to give explanation to BCCI on attending a public event before the Oval test in the aftermath of covid positive cases to 3 members of the coaching staff.
And the 2nd is the big possibility of Rohit Sharma missing out on the 5th test. Due to a knee injury sustained while batting for his first overseas test hundred. Rohit did not field in the England 2nd innings.
When Rohit was asked at the presentation about his injured knee, he did not commit anything by said, ” It looks good at the moment. The message from the physio is ‘assess every minute, don’t look too far ahead’,”
From the above, it is clear that the medical staff is non-committal about Rohit’s injury at this stage.
With a very short turnaround time between the 4th and the 5th test. It is a race against time for Rohit to get fit. Till date is the highest run-getter for India in the series with 368 runs at 52 average. He batted very well, adapting to the situations, using soft hands and playing close to the body. Finally realized his dream of scoring an overseas test hundred.
If Rohit misses the last test, it will be a huge blow for India. As he and Rahul have settled down very well to forge a successful opening partnership with Rahul also playing well particularly in the first 2 tests. If Rohit is unavailable then Mayank Agarwal, who has earlier opened with Rohit on tests will partner with Rahul.
The large number of Rohit fans are waiting with their fingers crossed as the hitman is trying very hard to get fit in the 2 days available in between
