Rohit Sharma is now the highest Indian centurion in England
Rohit Sharma has been India’s premier batsman in the current England tour. Not only he showed his ability to adapt to challenging batting conditions while facing the dukes ball. His long-awaited first-ever overseas test hundred has proved that he is ready to fight and make a name for himself in the test cricket. A format in which he has inexplicably taken a long time to flower inspite of having all the qualities.
Rohit ‘s Oval hundred is not only his first-ever overseas ton. But it also has pushed him to the top of the hundreds getter list in England if all the 3 formats are taken into consideration. Rohit earlier already had 7 ODI 100s in England which includes 5 in the World cup 2019 alone. Besides that, he had a T20I 100 and now a test 100 which makes it 9 across 3 formats.
Till date Rohit was on level terms with Rahul Dravid who had a great record in England. Dravid had 5 test hundreds and 3 ODI hundreds in England.
In 2011 test series alone Dravid had scored 3 hundreds , in the second last series of his career. Which included a brilliant 146 notout opening the batting. In 2002 Dravid scored 2 test centuries.
Tendulkar is at number 3 in the 100 list in England with 7 hundreds overall ( 4 in tests and 3 in ODIs). In the 1996 test series Sachin scored 2 centuries. In 1990 Sachin scored his first ever international 100 at Manchester at the age of 17.
Rohit Sharma has also completed 3000 runs in test cricket during his Oval 100.
Hence this tour has been a record-making one for the hitman. As he is probably going through the finest phase of his career since that 2019 World cup in England.
