Indian legends fought off a stiff challenge from the SriLankan legends to win the Road Safety World series event at Raipur . The victory margin of 14 runs proves the closeness of the game.
Batting first Indians lost Sehwag (10) and Badrinath (7) early but Tendulkar (30) was playing well and looked good for a big score having hit some crisp flicks and a well timed off drive but got out in bizarre fashion gloving a sweep high into the air to be caught by keeper. The captain’s dismissal was followed by the best part of India’s innings as Yuvraj Singh and Yusuf Pathan combined to produce a great partnership. Yuvraj (60 off 41 balls) was playing gorgeous shots with his famed bat swing , which was an envy amongst his contemporaries . He hit 4 glorious sixes with awesome timing . Yusuf Pathan (62 off 36 balls) who took a while to settle down gradually unfurled his strokes in belligerent style employing great power as he hit 5 explosive sixes . India finally ended at 181/4 off their 20 overs , more than decent runs on the board for a final.
For Sri Lankan legends Mahroof (1/16 in 4 overs ) and Herath (1/11 on 2 overs ) bowled tight lines .
The Sri Lankans started in bright fashion with Jayasurya being the aggressor and Dilshan looking to play a long innings . They put on an impressive 58/0 in powerplay . Jayasurya looked like his old self cutting and pulling boundaries on way to his 43 off 35 balls . The long awaited wicket came in form of Dilshan (21) caught behind off Yusuf which created some panic in Sri Lankan ranks and soon they slipped to 4/92 in 12 overs as Yusuf and Irfan bowled with skill to work through the middle order but Sri Lanka were not finished as a belligerent 64 run stand between Jayasinghe (40 off 30 balls) and Weeraratne (38 off 15 balls ) enlivened the match and created some panic within Indian bowling as suddenly boundaries & sixes started to flow . However calm leadership of Tendulkar guiding his bowlers and making the right moves kept India in the game and once Weeraratne was dismissed by Gony in 18th over , the Indian bowlers tightened up in final few balls and at the end Sri Lanka fell 14 short.
Both the Pathan brothers bowled well to get timely breakthroughs and Gony (1/24) with his long run up was accurate as usual .
Yusuf Pathan for his 62 and 2/26 was the man of the match .
