India has finally won the Oval test courtesy of some great bowling by the Indian fast bowlers as well as due to some inept English batting. The match was evenly poised till the first session of the 4th day after which Rishabh Pant and Shardul Thakur had a vital stand of 100 runs in which they batted sensibly, rotating the strike, showing good defence and punishing loose balls.
India’s 1983 World Cup legend and former cricketer Madan Lal praised Rishabh Pant for his responsible and steady knock. He said that Pant applied himself very well in the 2nd innings at the Oval as compared to his earlier knocks in the series where he looked edgy and was jumping out to hit balls out of the park. Madan said that there is no need for Pant to jump here or there and just play in the way he batted for his 50 in that 2nd innings.
Madan further added that getting out to a good ball is fine but Pant should not gift his wicket away as he did in previous knocks.
Pant got out to reckless shots in all his previous innings of the series before his 2nd innings 50 at the Oval.
Madan Lal also heaped a lot of praise for Rohit Sharma and said that he showed great character and adapting ability in English conditions and his knock in the second innings would be remembered for a long time.
Rohit incidentally scored his first overseas test hundred in England in the 2nd innings of the Oval test
