Retired Alistair Cook still good enough to find a spot in current England team: Graham Gooch
Former England captain and batting legend, Graham Gooch has expressed his dismay at the continuous failure of the England top order in the ongoing test series vs India. Gooch, who himself has amassed 8900 runs as an opener. Feels that the now-retired former England great, Alistair Cook can still play in this England XI.
Gooch was extremely disappointed with the England’s top 3. And said that Rory Burns, Dom Sibley and Zak Crawley really need to go back to the drawing board .
Gooch said that every cricketer worked hard & it’s not a lack of effort. But things like attitude, technical ability, knowledge and concentration all come into play, especially for an opening batsman as if there is one mistake, it’s the end of his day. Retired Alistair Cook still good enough to find a spot in current England team: Graham Gooch.
Gooch has advised the discarded openers to work on their game. Try to keep it simple and not be in a confused state of mind which can spell trouble.
Gooch hopes that both Hameed and Malam will deliver. He was happy at Malan’s selection and described him as a composed player who tries to play straight. And plays the ball late and with past test experience is expected to do well.
Gooch further stated that Joe Root. Who is in the form of his life still needs support from his other batters. To reduce the sky-high expectations on him.
To put things in perspective since 2019 there have been 14 changes in the England top 3 batsmen, and in 2021 the England top 3 is averaging only 19.
Another shocking statistics show that while Root has amassed 386 runs in the series at 129 average while the other batters managed 513 turns at shockingly disappointing 13 average.
