Lala Amarnath is a name that is revere in the Indian cricket world. Today, On September 11, India celebrates the legend’s birth anniversary. The legendary cricketer who made India proud was born on September 11, 1911, in Kapurthala, Punjab. Lala Amarnath was a right-handed batsman and is known for his great achievements in the cricketing world. He has his name inscribed in the history of this nation. The name that has become synonymous with the cricket world never be forgotten.
Lal Amarnath was the first Indian player to have hit a century in the longest format of cricket. He was captain of the Indian team that registered the first Test win for India. Played international cricket for 19 long and glorious years. He played 24 Test matches during this time and made 878 runs with an average of 24.38. The first century that any Indian player hit in Test cricket was Lal Amarnath. He did this in 1933 against England. The match was being play in Mumbai and in the second innings of the Test he created this score for 185 balls. This included 21 fours which itself is an achievement.
Team India won its first Test series 1952-53 against Pakistan. Pakistan had toured India for this series. India was being led by Lala Amarnath and team Pakistan was under the captaincy of Abdul Kadar. India made history and defeated Pakistan by 2-1 in this 5-match Test series.
