Reasons for Ashwin not included in Lords Test XI
The 2nd test between India and England has started at Lords . England won the toss and asked India to bat to use the overhead conditions for their swing bowlers.
The big news in the India team XI is that Ravichandran Ashwin , who was in the 12 for this test has been left out for Ishant Sharma. The reason given by Virat Kohli at the time of the toss is that due to the conditions being more favourable or pace and swing , Ishant Sharma is preferred over Ashwin for this test. Reasons for Ashwin not included in Lords Test XI.
Ishant had taken 7/74 in the Lords test in 2014 which helped India to win . However Ashwin in recent years has done well in overseas tests an an off spinner , specially in the unfavourable conditions in Australia last winter. Hence it was a tough job for any team to ignore him from any test XI.
However with overcast conditions and pitches tailormade for seam and swing bowling , Ashwin is losing out on a test spot . Also Ravindra Jadeja’s inproved batting in test cricket is causing difficulty for Ashwin to break into the side when India is playing 4 fast bowlers.
England on the other hand has made 3 changes in the team. Moeen Ali, Haseeb Hameed and Mark Wood has replaced Dan Lawrence, Zak Crawley and injured Stuart Broad respectively.
