Ravichandran Ashwin’s non-inclusion in the fourth Test is like a “death wish” for India
England vs India Test series has reached the fourth match and there are some major changes in the Indian team which has not made fans and experts happy. Two huge changes in the ongoing fourth Test include off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s exclusion; and inclusion of spinner duo Umesh Yadav and Shardul Thakur. Shardul Thakur and Umesh Yadav have been brought into the team. As a replacement for Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma. After the terrible loss at Headingley, fans, and cricket experts had hoped for Ashwin’s inclusion in the team. But Ashwin was ignore for the fourth time in the ongoing Test series. Former cricketers reacted strongly to this and took to Twitter to express their opinion.
Michael Vaughn, former England cricket captain wrote that leaving a player who has 413 wickets in his kitty and five Test centuries is “madness”. He called it “the greatest NON selection” that the world has witnessed in this series.
The same thoughts echoed from Australia. Former Australian cricketer Lisa Sthalekar and Tom Moody expressed their surprise at this exclusion. Moody said that the team has “ample room to play both spinners and 3 specialist quicks”.
Star commentator Harsha Bhogle hoped that the selected team works out for India. But said that he was “flabbergaste” that the team has entered the fourth match without Ashwin. India politician Shashi Tharoor wrote that it was unbelievable that Ashwin was left again. That too on the most spin-friendly ground of England. He also said that if the best five bowlers were to be chosen for the team. Ashwin had to have the first or the second name. Tharoor wrote that Shami’s and Ashwin’s omission at the Oval is like a “death wish- as if you want to lose!”.
