Rashid Khan steps down as captain miffed at not being consulted in T20I team selection for World cup


A troubled Afghanistan has announced their World cup T20I squad which is at their full strength . Rashid Khan has been chosen as the captain of the team .  Afghanistan is expected to cause few upsets as they have probably the most talent group of spinners who can cause havoc at UAE , which is known to produce spinning wickets .

However Rashid Khan , the new captain has stepped down , miffed at not been consult in choosing the squad .
In a Twitter post he wrote  ” As the captain and responsible person for the nation I reserve the right to be part of the selection of the team. The selection committee and ACB has not obtained my consent for the team. Which has been announce by ACB media,” “I am taking the decision of stepping down from the role. As the captain of Afghanistan T20 side effective immediately. It’s always my proud playing for Afghanistan,”

Rashid has been upset since Taliban forces have taken over Afghanistan. And has serious doubts on the cricket future of Afghanistan. It now remains to be seen who is chosen as Afghanistan’s new captain.

The Afghanistan World cup squad is as under. All the mainstays of the team are select and there are no major surprises.


Squad: Rashid Khan (c), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), Hazratullah Zazai, Usman Ghani, Asghar Afghan, Mohammad Nabi, Najibullah Zadran, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Mohammad Shahzad (WK), Mujeeb ur Rahman, Karim Janat, Gulbadin Naib, Naveen ul Haq, Hamid Hassan, Sharafudding Ashraf, Dawlat Zadran, Shapoor Zadran, Qais Ahmad.
Reserves: Afsar Zazai, Farid Ahmad Malik.
