Rajasthan wins a crucial match
KKR’s sorry state of affairs continues as Rajasthan play the conditions better to win by 6 wickets with 7 balls to spare and finally Samson stays till the end to complete a victory.
Sent to bat first KKR struggled right through the innings on an apparently slowest pitch. Gill’s(11) horror IPL continues as he gets run out early. Rana (22) scratched around without getting momentum. Tripathy (36) was the only batter who showed a bit of momentum and played some lovely shots on both sides of the pitch but he had the misfortune to see Morgan getting shockingly run out for 0 as Tripathy’s straight drive rebounded of Morgan’s bat to go to Morris who did the rest as Morgan was out of his crease. Narine fell cheaply and this time there was no rescue act from Russell and Cummins.
The Rajasthan bowlers adapted to the conditions beautifully as their fast bowlers Unadkat (1/25), Mustafizur (1/22) and Sakariya (1/31) took the pace off the ball to make KKR struggle to reach 133/9 in 20 overs.
In reply, Rajasthan had another disappointment from Buttler (5) but Yashaswi Jaiswal finally replacing inconsistent Manan Vohra played pretty well hitting 22 runs off 17 balls with 5 fours and looked good for more. However, his dismissal against the run of play brought Samson and Dube (22 off 18 balls) together in an important partnership of 45 which set up the Rajasthan win. Just when it appeared that these two will take the team home, Dube was caught in the deep and Tewatia (5) followed soon. However, experienced David Miller (24) held firm and along with a settled Samson (42 ) ensured that the Royals win without any further alarms by 6 wickets.
For KKR, Narine (0/20 in 4 overs) and Shivam Mavi (1/19 in 4 overs) were the most economical bowlers who adjusted well to the conditions. Varun got 3 wickets but gave away 32 runs and Cummins was again expensive.
This is a great win for the Royals and should give them the confidence to tackle future games. The team is thriving on the slower pitches with the type of bowling attack they have got.
KKR has got a lot to ponder over. Most of their key players are not firing and after a first match win, the team has hit their lowest morale with 4 successive losses. Time to try players like Siefert, Cutting and Furguson.
