Punjab Kings withstood tsunami Samson to win a thriller by 4 runs.

Sanju Samson with 119 off 63 balls (12 fours, 7 sixes ) authored the most incredible century for the ages in IPL history but could not take his team Rajasthan Royals over the line.

Samson almost singlehandedly threatened to win the match for Royals . The next highest scorers of Rajasthan innings were jointly Buttler and Parag — 25 each .

Samson’s sensational knock full of dazzling strokeplay was the sight for Gods as the Punjab Kings bowling attack was stunned by the brilliance of the batting quality of Samson’s innings.

Chasing down a mammoth target of 222, Royals lost Stokes early as he mistimed his attempted pull off Shami to get caught and bowled by Shami off a skier. Soon Manan Vohra after hitting a beautifully timed six was dismissed for 12 caught and bowled by Arshdeep.

Samson was joined by Buttler who scored a quickfire 25 off 13 balls including spanking four consecutive boundaries off a Meredith over. Jhye Richardson bowled one slower yorker to rattle Butter’s stumps. Shibham Dube (23) and Riyan Parag (25) made important contributions batting with Samson. Parag hit 25 off 11 with 3 glorious sixes & looked dangerous.

Samson along all was looking gorgeous as he set about blazing the Punjab bowling with dazzling strokes which included 12 fours and 7 sixes. None of the bowlers were able to contain Samson as Rajasthan charged towards the stiff target. With the last four overs remaining 48 was required by Royals. It was Samson vs Punjab as Shami bowled 17th over and got Parag. 40 needed off 3 overs and Samson took 19 off Richardson including 4,6, 4 off the first 3 to complete his sensational 100.

With 21 needed off 10 Meredith dismissal Tewatia cheaply and gave away 8 runs to leave 13 off last over for Arshdeep who gave away only 3 off the first 3 and was sent over extra cover for 6 by Samson. 5th ball Samson refused a single. Last ball 4 to tie 5 to win. Samson hoists the bowler towards long-off but Hooda took a pressure catch and Punjab Kings win by 4 runs. For Punjab, Arshdeep was the outstanding bowler with 3/35.Shami 2/33.

Earlier, put-in-to-bat KL Rahul reiterated his current sparkling form as he almost batted the whole 20 overs scoring a superb 91. He was playing the more waiting game in powerplay till he started changing his layer of gears and scored a superb 91 off 50 balls. Mayank (14) was dismissed by rookie left armer Chetan Sakariya who produced a great debut getting 3/31 bowling in right channels, varying pace with skills.

Gayle looked threatening with 40 off 28 but Deepak Hooda promoted ahead of Pooran played a cavalier innings of 64 off 28 balls destroying the Rajasthan bowling with brutal hitting with 4 fours and 6 powerful sixes mostly around midwicket and square leg arc . He could have got the man of the match had not Samson played that memorable innings.

For Rajasthan, Chetan Sakariya bowled brilliantly with skilful variation . Morris took 2/41 . Mustafizur was unlucky as catches were dropped off his bowling .

In the end Punjab won a thriller and maintained their methods of causing anxiety amongst their fans with thrilling last over finishes. as Priety Zinta , their owner mentioned in her excitement filled tweet !!
