We are onto another IPL auction , this time for 2021 season to be held in India .  While the mega auction is scheduled for 2022 , the current season auction is expected to be more of plugging loose ends for most franchisees  except for those who have released some key players and have bigger purse at their disposal .

The current purse position of 8 franchisees are as under

Chennai Super Kings(CSK)- 19.9 Crores

Delhi Capitals(DC)- 13.4 Crores

Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR)- 10.75 Crores

Punjab Kings (PK) – 53.2 Crores

Royal Challengers Bangalore(RCB)- 35.4 Crores

Sun Risers Hyderabad(SRH)- 10.75 Crores

Mumbai Indians(MI)- 15.35 Crores

Rajasthan Royals(RR)- 37.85 Crores

From the purse position it is obvious that the top three teams that will be most active at this auction  will be Punjab Kings , Royal Challengers Bangaluru and Rajasthan Royals . These 3 teams have also released many players . The rest will be only trying to tighten up few loose ends or try to look for  backups for their main core :

Chennai Super Kings : Has a settled team. May look for a young middle order Indian batter or allrounder and may be an off spinner to fill Harbhajan’s spot . Also they may try for a backup opener . Rest spots settled.  Young Indians like Shivam Dube , Mohammed Azharuddeen or a Jason Roy up the order can be few options they may look at.

Mumbai Indians :  Settled unit . Have released few fast bowlers , so they may look for one like a Jhye Richardson or a left armer like Wagner since they have released two left arm quicks .

Rajasthan Royals : Expected to be in buying mode . To bolster the bowling they may look at good Indian option like Umesh Yadav , foreign options like Jhye Richardson, Coulter Nile, Stanlake etc . May have a go at a Dawid Malan or a Jason Roy  . May go for Maxwell or Shakib too to strengthen lower middle order and go for allrounder

Delhi Capitals : Solid core already . expected to be passive at the auction except trying for few backup options . Bowling seem to have all bases covered.

Kolkata Knight Riders  : Like Delhi, looks a settled unit . May look for a strong Indian opening option at the top and try to make provision for an injured prone Russell by having a Fabian Allen or any other allrounder.

Sunrisers Hyderabad : Looks to have all bases covered except for a strong and attacking  Indian middle order and hence someone like a Shivam Dubey might get buyers .

Royal Challengers Bangaluru :  Like the other Royals RCB needs good additions as they have released many players . They need a quality overseas fast bowler , a solid allrounder down the order and a good opener so players like Jamieson , Maxwell , Shakib , Berendorff , Roy or Malan . May well buy back Morris or Moeen Ali. Also a quality Indian middle order batter they may look at like local boy Karun Nair or Shahrukh Khan.

Punjab Kings : With name change and the biggest purse Punjab Kings will be the most active buyer in this auction. Similar issues like RCB . Will be looking at strong overseas fast bowling options like Jhye Richardson, Coulter Nile , Wagner , Berendorff , a  quality allrounder like Kyle Jamieson , Shakib Al Hasan or a Moeen Ali who can also add more with ball and a strong middle order hitter like Shibham Dubey and a preferably Indian middle order batter .

This is expected to be an interesting auction for some of the teams before the teams get dismantled for the mega show in 2022
