Prithvi Shaw likely to be flown to England for the Test series
Team India is contemplating a replacement of Shubman Gill who will be out for at least 8 weeks due to a
“shin splints ” injury resulting out of stress-related workload.
With 5 tests against England being held back to back. Gill in all likelihood may have to return home. Prithvi Shaw likely to be flown to England for the Test series.
The Team management in England hence is reportedly interested in calling up Prithvi Shaw. Who is currently in Sri Lanka with the Indian white-ball squad under the leadership of Shikhar Dhawan.
Shaw was dropped in Australia after an indifferent showing in the Adelaide test. But since then has unleashed massive scores in the domestic Vijay Hazare one day tournament in India. Breaking many past records and is now in great touch.
Currently, Mayank Agarwal is tipped to open with Rohit Sharma in tests. The team is contemplating absorbing Abhimanyu Easwaran in the squad from standby stocks. Easwaran opens for Bengal and had a prolific season one year ago. But since the 25-year-old is a rookie to test cricket, the team management does not want to take a chance. Hence is contemplating recalling Prithvi Shaw from Srilanka.
The other possible candidate for the opening slot, KL Rahul is no longer considered to open the innings. And is kept for a middle-order slot should the need arise.
If indeed Shaw is called up to join the test squad in England. Then an opening slot will open up for the Srilankan bound team with Devdutt Paddikal and Ruturaj Gaekwad the likely candidates.
