Punjab need a big win to change momentum

The RCB vs Punjab Kings match at Ahmedabad will assume great importance for Punjab Kings to resurrect their future in IPL 2021. Only managing two wins from their first 6 matches, Punjab must win this tie to keep themselves floating in the championships. They have suffered some heavy defeats due to poor batting performances and now needs to change the personnel wherever necessary.

The batting has been too inconsistent. KL Rahul needs to up his strike rate, Mayank needs to play match-defining knocks. Gayle needs to fire more frequently. There seems to be a case now to play Dawid Malan in place of a talented but misfiring Nicholas Pooran.

Punjab need a big win to change momentum. The bowling has done reasonably well trying to defend low scores but still need to raise the levels of consistency.

With the pitch at Ahmedabad assisting batting, Punjab needs to re-deploy their wicket-taking options. Thus it remains to be seen whether they bring back wicket-taker Jhye Richardson and play him ahead of Jordan or Henriques.

Probable XI

Rahul , Mayank , Gayle , Hooda , Pooran/ Malan , Shahrukh, Henriques , Jordan / Jhye Richardson, Shami , Arshdeep , Bishnoi .

RCB look in great momentum notwithstanding their big loss to CSK that damaged their net run rate. Their tactics of keeping back AB De Villiers at 5 and playing Maxwell ahead of him has done wonders as deVilliers has controlled the slog overs beautifully. The RCB bowling is clicking like never before, with Harshal Patel holding the purple cap and Siraj creating impact by picking up regular wickets in powerplay and death overs.

Even though two of their foreigners Zampa and Richardson has left the IPL due to covid related flight embargoes by the Australian government, their Indian players are performing well enough for RCB to play 3 overseas if needed.

The number 3 batting spot for RCB has finally clicked in the last game with Rajat Patidar contributing a crucial 31 in the one-run win over Delhi. Punjab need a big win to change momentum.

Against Punjab, RCB is expected not to change the team much

Probable XI

Paddikal, Kohli, Patidar, Maxwell, AB de Villiers, Sundar, Jamieson, Shahbaz, Harshal, Siraj, Chahal

With the match a very vital one for Punjab and a crucial one for RCB too to notch up 2 further points, it promises to be an exciting game.
