Preview Punjab Kings v KKR Ahmedabad is to host the first match of IPL 2021 as KKR and Punjab lock horns. Both teams are at the end half of the points table and this game promises to be a thriller with both teams looking to enhance their points tally.
KKR has many more issues to handle than Punjab. The middle-order is misfiring. The bowling is inconsistent and the body language poor. The team is not at all gelling together and none of the batters is showing any consistency, especially in the middle order with Karthik, Russell, Narine being inconsistent and Morgan going through a poor patch. Gill unable to provide quick starts at the top is a big issue and there could be a case of putting him in the middle order.
The bowling has struggled with spearhead Cummins unable to provide breakthroughs at the top and leaking runs. The spinners looked comparatively better but unable to win games. With four consecutive losses out of 5 games, KKR has looked well below par.
They need to look at their overseas substitutes now with Lockie Ferguson, Ben Cutting and Tom Seifert waiting in the wings and yet to get a match to showcase their talent.
There is a possibility of Lockie playing in the XI to provide more bowling firepower. Preview Punjab Kings v KKR.
Rana, Tripathy, Gill, Karthik, Morgan, Narine, Russell, Cummins / Ferguson, Varun, Mavi, Prasidh
Punjab has looked like a more settled team than KKR and with their latest win against the mighty Mumbai Indians, they will be buoyant and should be in great momentum. The batting is working well with a settled batting lineup but needs to be more consistent. The bowling still requires some improvements and different conditions at the new venue may require some rejig. However, Bishnoi’s successful return in the XI is great news.
