Neeraj Chopra creates history by winning 1st ever Olympic Gold in athletics for India
23 year old India’s ace javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra from Panipat has created a massive history for India in Olympics by winning the gold in javelin finals in Olympics . This is the first ever gold by an Indian athlete in track and field. We had Milkha Singh in 1960 and PT Usha in 1984 narrowly missing a medal in athletics. Abhinav Bindra won the 1st ever individual medal for India in Olympics in shooting in 2008. Finally on 7th August 2021 , Neeraj has achieved what no other Indian achieved before him with his 2nd throw of 87.58 meters after an already good first attempt of 87.03 meters.
Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch and Vítězslav Veselý were the closest competitors to Neeraj. Vadlejch bagged the silver with a throw of 86.67m, which came in his fifth attempt. While Veselý threw 85.44m to finish third.
India had won another bronze on the same day through Bajrang Punia in wrestling. Aditi Ashok missed a 3rd medal on the same day very narrowly in golf after staying in contention almost the whole duration of the event.

In the Sony network Studio , the commentators of the India v England test were all glued to Neeraj’s event and were over the moon as soon as it became clear the Neeraj has won. Sunil Gavaskar was even singing the famous song ” Ye Desh Ki Dharti”.
