Mumbai Indians clinch the title for the 2nd time while CSK still waits for its 3rd

The story ended with a question and that was whether you remember something about “Fan park”. Well, if you do not, it’s perfectly fine because we are here with another success saga, another year another IPL story.

So, it was 2015, dearly called IPL season 8! IPL craze was still going strong and we can safely say that it had only increased with each passing year. Each IPL story begins with auctions and the auctions this year took place on February 16, 2015. A total of 123 players were retained by 8 franchises and 6 players were traded across franchises before the board began with the auctions. A total of 67 players sold out during 2015 auctions and Yuvraj Singh was the highest-paid cricketer to be bought for that season which created a record. A total amount of 87.60 crores was spent by the franchises at the auction in 2015.

Like each year the IPL opening ceremony maintained its grandeur and was a star-studded event. After the 8 teams led by their captains had taken the MCC Spirit of Cricket pledge on April 7, 2015, at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata, it was time for the fun to unravel. The grand opening ceremony featured stars like Hrithik Roshan, Anushka Sharma, Farhan Akhtar, Shahid Kapoor, and many other big names from Bollywood.

Though the ceremony could not start on time due to rain when it did start after the wait of one and a half hours, it was all that the IPL opening ceremony is known for.

Mumbai Indians repeated its win

2015 or season 8 of the Indian Premier League proved to be the season of Mumbai Indians as the team clinched its second trophy after defeating the 2 times champions Chennai Super Kings. CSK had been trying to grab its third win for quite some time now but this year too, the team could not touch the trophy though it came so close.

CSK was defeated by Mumbai Indians by 41 runs at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Though none of its players could make a place for themselves in top scorers or top wicket-takers. The runners-up team had put in all their efforts to win the title which was visible in the list of top scorers.

Dwayne Bravo of CSK was awarded the title of top wicket-taker as he took 26 wickets at an economy rate of 8.14. Bravo also became the player to grab most catches this season. He took 13 catches in 17 matches. Surprisingly, the top three places in this list go to CSK as Bravo was followed by Ravindra Jadeja who took the same number of catches as Bravo. And then we have Suresh Raina with 11 catches. Sadly, CSK couldn’t claim the title like one of the wickets.

David Warner from Sunrisers Hyderabad became the top-scoring player with 562 runs in 14 matches.

Points table is the best way to have an eye on all the teams at once. So, let’s do that.

IPL Fanpark initiative

As famous IPL is for its controversies equally famous it is for its initiatives to increase its viewership. IPL comes up with a new plan, a new hook phrase, a new dance routine, or a song to keep its audience glued to the format. And would not be wrong to say that these strategies have worked wonders for the tournament.

The year 2015 was the year when “Fanpark” was started to increase the indulgence of the audience and also to spread the reach of IPL across the country. Watching your favorite cricketers live with thousands of other fans cheering them on is a wonderful experience but not everyone gets to experience that. To remove this barrier the board came up with the Fanpark initiative.

As a part of the initiative, IPL was made available in the stadiums across 15 cities, apart from the 12 venues hosting the matches, on a large screen. Access to these stadiums was free and based on a first-come-first-served basis.

Now, that’s a treat for the cricket fans, isn’t it!

You must be wondering how the next season of IPL unfolded as so much has already happened on and outside the ground when it comes to IPL. But we promise there’s more. Stay tuned!
