Monty Panesar gives important advice to Kohli to get back his form in England
Virat Kohli’s struggle for runs in England continues on this tour. He has totalled only around 70 runs so far in this series & has already been dismissed by his nemesis James Anderson twice in this series in identical fashion — driving outside the off almost going towards the 6th stump. In fact even his dismissals to Ollie Robinson and Sam Curran at Lords has been on similar lines.
England former left-arm spinner Monty Panesar who has taken 167 wickets in 50 tests and developed a great partnership with Graeme Swann in the early part of 2010s feels that Kohli needs to be patient. Monty Panesar gives important advice to Kohli to get back his form in England
Monty Panesar spoke exclusively to cricnews24 correspondent and he was asked the below question on Virat Kohli’s current form.
What’s your view on Virat Kohli current form in England tour? Do you think that Kohli has to change his mindset while selecting shots to play or else?
Panesar answered by saying that Virat Kohli needs to develop the mental toughness. Like Sachin did to put the cover drive away to get back amongst the runs. He advised Kohli to exercise more patience and build on long innings.
Panesar was obviously referring to Kohli’s current issue of getting out. Trying to play his favourite cover drive and nicking it to the keeper or slips.
Panesar brought up Sachin in the discussion as in 2004 test at SCG Sachin. Who was getting out earlier in that series playing the cover drives. Played marathon knock of 241 not out in which he totally discarded the cover drive in almost the whole of that long innings and thereby showing great patience.
Hence it was a great advice by Panesar to Kohli in order to change his fortunes in the series. Remains to be seen what approach Kohli takes in his remainder knocks on this tour
