India’s ace middle order batsman Mithali Raj became the 1st woman from India to cross the 10000 run barrier in international cricket in the 3rd ODI between India and South Africa when she reached 35 . In the World context she is only the 2nd woman to achieve this landmark after England’s now retired Charlotte Edwards.
Mithali made her international debut on 1999 in ODI and since then has played in 311 internationals . Her consistency and dedication is something to be replicated for all younger women cricketers of India . She is now in the 21st year of international cricket and just 2 years shy of Tendulkar’s all- gender record of 23 years . Mithali along with legendary Jhulan Goswami are the two women cricketers who have raised high benchmarks for other women cricketers to emulate .
The brief break up of Mithali’s runs format wise is as under
Tests ODIs T20Is
Matches 10 212 89
Runs 663 6974 2364
Average 51 50 37.50
With the form that she is in, Mithali should be able to play for India for another two to three years . She will be one of the most important members when India plays their first womens test match in 5 years later this year .
