Michael Vaughan offers an interesting solution for the completion of IPL 2021 in England
With the BCCI and ECB in unofficial conversations on trying to find a window for the suspended IPL 2021. Lots of theories are been thrown around.
Michael Vaughan offers an interesting solution for the completion of IPL 2021 in England. As of now, two options are doing the rounds. On one hand the BCCI wants the test series against England to be advance by a week as that the series ends one week earlier in September. The 2nd option is to scrap the last test and play a 4 test series.
ECB has already indicated that since no official request has come from BCCI, they are going ahead with their existing plans. As large portions of tickets have already been sold for all 5 tests of this marquee series.
In the meantime, Michael Vaughan came up with a very interesting thought. He prescribed that let the test series start earlier by a week to give more time space in September for the IPL to finish. While advancing the start of the series by one week, no England test squad player will be available to play the 100 format which is been marketed in a big way by ECB. However, ECB can get into a deal with BCCI and get all the India fringe players in the Test squad to play in the 100.
“Simple solution. Play the First Indian Test a week earlier. No England Test players would then potentially play the 100 so fringe Indian Test players replace them. Then the IPL can finish. Good deal all around,” Vaughan said on Twitter.
The thought admittedly appears to be an innovative one but there would be several constraints to take it forward as India won’t agree to do away with their reserve players in a long series after their experience in the injury-ravaged last tour of Australia.
