MI v KKR 2012
When the equation is Eden Gardens plus Rohit Sharma, we can always expect something special from the Mumbai batsman. MI v KKR 2012 at 2012 Rohit already tasted a world T20I title (2007) and was an integral part of the team that won the 2008 Commonwealth Bank ODI series in Australia but was yet to make his test debut. (which was to come at the same venue — Eden Gardens, a year later with a century to boot).
In that afternoon game Mumbai Indians batted first and was jolted with the wicket of Tendulkar (2) at 15. However Hershelle Gibbs looked solid and Rohit Sharma , coming at number 3 looked in majestic touch and what Eden saw next was scintillating strokeplay by both Gibbs and Rohit in powerplay and soon Rohit started to dominate the scoring. Brett Lee was pulled across for 6 and soon dazzling cover and off drives followed as Rohit looked at effortless ease against the quicks.
When Shakib came to bowl, Rohit using his feet and the crease, drove, cut and swept him for boundaries. He showed no signs of relenting the pressure on KKR as fast bowlers returned but were easily put away as runs were coming at rapid pace with Rohit in full control.
Amongst the bowlers only Sunil Narine looked in some control but the fast bowlers were clobbered as Rohit hit 12 fours and 5 sixes in his stunning knock of 109notout in 60 balls and thereby starting his love affair with Eden Gardens.
MI v KKR 2012 for the record, Mumbai Indians managed 182/1 with Gibbs too batting well, getting an unbeaten 66 and restricted KKR to 155/7 to win by 27 runs.
