MI to an emphatic victory over Rajasthan Royals
Mumbai Indians, after a small break, finally showed their true worth by beating Rajasthan Royals by 7 wickets. The middle order batting , which looked ruffled in their earlier matches finally gelled together and Quinton D Kock showed a welcome return to form by playing through the innings and controlling the 171 run chase superbly to take the team over the line in IPL 2021.
Rajasthan Royals were asked to bat first and began extremely well with Buttler and under 19 Indian player Yaswashi Jaiswal starting well with 77 runs partnership for the 1st wicket. Buttler hit belligerent strokes on his way to 41 off 32 balls and looked in ominous touch hitting long sixes and striking the ball well after an indifferent last few games. Jaiswal (32 off 20 balls) played couple of fine pull shots and hit the balls well in vacant spaces.
Buttler’s dismissal against the run of play, stumped off Rahul Chahar , brought in Sanju Samson who timed the ball sweetly in his steady innings of 42 off 27 balls . Jaiswal’s dismissal , caught and bowled off the leading edge by Chahar, brought in Shivam Dube to join Samson. However Dube (35 off 31 balls ) could not force the pace against very tight lengths bowled by Mumbai bowlers and could score only at a run a ball. Samson was finally yorked by a brilliant Trent Boult delivery and David Miller who needed to bat higher up the order to use his striking power faced only 4 balls for his unbeaten 7 runs at the end with Rajasthan Royals finally scoring 171/4 .
For Mumbai , Bumrah bowled an outstanding spell of 1/15 off 4 overs . Rahul Chahar got 2 wickets in another solid display and Boult was a handful as usual .
In reply MI started well with a 1st wicket stand of 49 and finally D Kock was striking the ball well. For the first time in this IPL he focussed on timing his strokes rather than going hard at the balls which he was doing in earlier matches and was not succeeding .
MI to an emphatic victory over Rajasthan Royals. Finally Morris provided the vital breakthrough for the Royals by getting a more sedate Rohit (14) out . Suryakumar stepped in and was timing his shots crisply in his brief knock of 16 before Morris dismissed him . Krunal Pandya came ahead of Pollard at number 4 and along with D Kock stitched a formidable partnership of 63 runs that virtually settled the game . Krunal(39 off 26 balls) got out against the run of play but Pollard with his quickfire 16 notout ensured a comfortable 7 wicket win with D Kock who batted through the innings staying unbeaten on 70 off 50 balls.
It was an innings full of delightful strokes , the well timed pulls , flowing drives , crisp cut shots and fantastic reverse sweeps which not only fetched the win for his team but got him the man of the match award.
The Rajasthan Royals bowling looked out of sorts and lacked penetration. Morris took 2 wickets .
MI to an emphatic victory over Rajasthan Royals. With this win Mumbai are within the top four teams in the points tally while Rajasthan now have an uphill task to break into the top four.
