Mathew Hayden & Vernon Philander inducted in Pakistan coaching team ahead of T20I World cup

In a big breaking news, the Pakistan cricket board chairman  Ramiz Raja has announced the appointments of former cricket legends Mathew Hayden and Vernon Philander as the coaches for the upcoming  T20I World cup in UAE .

It may be noted that soon after the Pakistan T20I World cup squad was announced, both Misbah Ul Haq and Waqar Younis resigned from their posts abruptly citing mental fatigue due to intensive and lengthy bio bubble lifestyle.

Though their roles have not been specifically mentioned, it is expected that Hayden would be looking at the batting and Philander on the bowling side of things.

Hayden, who played in the 2007 T20I World cup,had a strike rate of 143 in 9 T20Is in which he scored 308 runs at 51 average. He had a strike rate of 137 in IPL s   having played 32 IPL games for 1107 tubs at 36 average. Of course he was a legend in test and ODI cricket, smashing  8625 test runs at 51 average and 6133 test runs at 44 average.

Vernon Philander was a test specialist with 224 wickets in 64 tests .

Ramiz Raja is of the opinion that both Hayden and Philander’s presence and positive outlook to the game will suit Pakistan cricket .

“Matthew Hayden is Australian, and has experience of winning World Cups and was a great player himself,”  Ramiz Raja said.

“It might be very beneficial to have an Australian occupying the dressing room. And Pakistan, of course, can win the World Cup, they just need to improve their performances an extra 10%.”Vernon Philander I know very well, and he understands bowling, and has a great record against Australia,” Ramiz added.

It may be noted that Saqlain Mushtaq and Abdul Razzaq will look after Pakistan as team coaches in their white-ball series vs New Zealand at home  after which both Hayden and Philander will take over .
