The Sei Lanka fast bowling legend Lasith Malinga has finally announced his retirement after a glittering cricket career. He played well across all formats especially in the ODIs & T20s . He had already finished playing for Sri Lanka earlier and was making only sporadic appearances in T20 cricket in the last one year.
Malinga has long announced his retirement from Tests and ODIs and in last few years he was concentrating only on T20s .
In 30 tests Malinga managed 101 wickets at 33 average . In 226 ODIs he was exceptional , taking 338 wickets at 28 average and 5.35 economy . In 83 T20Is Malinga has taken 107 wickets at 20 average and 7.42 economy with a sensational 5 wickets for 6 runs as his best bowling figures .
In IPL he has been exceptional for Mumbai Indians with 170 wickets in 122 games at 19.79 average and 7.14 economy . His best bowling figures was 5/13 .
Malinga’s ability to bowl pinpoint accurate and lethal Yorkers have won many matches for Mumbai Indians and Sri Lanka in T20Is/ ODIs. He had also developed a slower bouncer in latter years .
With his Test career shortened due to a knee injury , Malinga is the only bowler apart from Wasim Akram to have taken 4 international hattricks . His best team moment came when Sri Lanka lifted the T20I World cup in 2014 .
It remains to be seen how Sri Lanka uses Malinga’s experience and skills to develop their future bowling attacks
