As the IPL is getting riddled with covid issues in the past 24 hours, two of the franchisees, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals are set to suffer a major blow as their Bangladeshi players are asked to return to the country with changes of quarantine rules by the Bangladesh Government. Bangladesh players Shakib Al Hasan (playing for KKR) and Mustafizur Rahman ( playing for Rajasthan Royals ) might have to return to their country from the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 sooner than planned. The development comes due to the quarantine rule imposed by the Bangladesh health ministry, Nizamuddin Chowdhury, the Bangladesh Cricket Board chief said
Major blow for KKR and RR as two top players may leave IPL. The new quarantine rule which came into effect on May 1, states that travellers coming from India and South Africa will have to undergo a 14-day quarantine period before resuming work.
Bangladesh will be playing an ODI series vs Sri Lanka at home and both the players were expected to return on May 19 for a 3-day quarantine before the series. However, with the new 14-day quarantine rules coming in, both the players will have to leave IPL immediately if they want to play in the ODI series
Hence the BCB has already spoken to both the players and trying to understand their plans. Major blow for KKR and RR as two top players may leave IPL.
“We have asked both the players to let us know what is their plan for the next 15 days while we have also asked the health ministry to know what kind of quarantine protocol the two players will need to follow,” said Nizamuddin Chowdhury, BCB Chief Executive.
Mustafizur has been one of the main bowlers of Rajasthan Royals with his deft pace variations. He got 3 wickets in Rajasthan’s latest win over SRH whereas Shakib Al Hassan is one of the top overseas players for KKR, and was expected to play a crucial role in the coming games.
