Krunal Pandya tested covid positive
Grim news has come from Sri Lanka. With the 2nd T20I just a few hours away, it has transpired that Indian spin allrounder Krunal Pandya has tested covid positive. It has been said that 8 other players had come in close contact with Krunal. During the last couple of days in which case they will all be in isolation.
This news has resulted in the postponement of the 2nd T20I. As of now, it is postponed till tomorrow (as per BCCI circular) and the final match to be played on 29th July but with all isolation protocols, at this stage, it looks a bit uncertain that the match will actually go ahead tomorrow.
Also, there is a case of two players ( Shaw and Surya) to be flying off to England immediately after the T20Is are over. However, with the postponement happening, their flight plans may have to be deferred in all likelihood.
It may be mentioned that due to covid cases in the Sri Lanka camp. The whole series started 5 days behind the initial schedule. Thus a postponement of the entire tour has already happened by 5 days.
With Krunal effectively out of the T20I series. Options open up for Nitish Rana or Krishnappa Gowtham to figure in the remaining matches. Unless of course they do not happen to be in the group of 8 members who were in close contact with Krunal..
More updates are awaited on the whole scenario.
