Kohli’s childhood coach worried about Kohli’s record against Southee
With the WTC final closing in, the Indians are focussing hard on the same, while many experts are giving their own verdict on the pros and cons on both the teams, Virat Kohli’s own personal childhood coach Mr Raj Kumar Sharma has expressed some reservations on Kohli’s batting.
Raj Kumar Sharma drew attention to the fact that New Zealand’s key fast bowler Tim Southee has dismissed Virat Kohli 10 times in test cricket, a piece of stats that is bound to worry Kohli’s fans. Kohli’s childhood coach worried about Kohli’s record against Southee
Sharma explained that Southee’s nagging line and length and his ability to swing the ball just sufficiently in the English conditions can be a threat to Kohli who loves to play the cover drive but has to exercise a lot more restraint against Southee and should try to control playing his drives against the fast bowler.
In the 2014 England tour, Jimmy Anderson tormented Kohli outside the off-stump. As Kohli had one of his most horrendous test series. However, in 2018, Kohli came out with different plans against Anderson; resisted his urge to play any cover drives against him showing great patience. Finally ending up with 593 runs and not getting out even once to Anderson in the series.
Sharma indicated that Southee looked in great rhythm in the 1st test against England and will be playing on Kohli’s patience while he will try to lure him outside off stump with slips in place.
However, Sharma expressed faith that Kohli will surely look to counter this strategy. And will exercise restraint to play a long innings by leaving more balls outside off against Southee.
